Worldwide oceans face increasing threats from higher water temperatures, rising sea levels, overfishing and escalating ocean acidity. Yet, there is reason for hope.

Endangered Blue Whales seen on Oceanic Society’s Farallon Islands Nature Cruise
San Francisco, CA. Two blue whales, the largest animals ever to inhabit the earth, were seen feeding near the Farallon Islands to the wonderment of the whale watchers participating in the June 21st Oceanic Society's Farallon Islands Nature Cruise. Blue whales are endangered and have still not recovered their world-wide population numbers despite a moratorium on commercial hunting of all large whales since 1986.

Based at a beachfront hotel in Placencia, one trip maximizes scuba diving time, while two of the departures are designed for snorkelers and include some land tours and optional diving. Trips are accompanied by a marine biologist who helps identify fish and explain behavior, and provides information on whale sharks and marine ecology.
