Belize Manatees
Record Number of Manatees Sighted in Belize
Oceanic Society and LightHawk conducted aerial surveys for endangered Antillean manatees at remote Turneffe Atoll, Belize. The two U.S. based nonprofit organizations worked in cooperation with the Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute (CZMAI). Country wide a record 507 manatees were documented in Belizean waters by CZMAI.
