Field Station Coordinator/Marine Naturalist/Biologist Job Opening
JOB OPENING
POSITION TITLE: Field Station Coordinator/Field Marine Naturalist
Blackbird Field Station, Turneffe Atoll, Belize
Seasonal Position: January - July 2012
I. General Function
Multi-faceted position. Responsibilities include: a) serving as a marine naturalist for small ecotour groups, b) assistant coral reef monitoring field biologist, and c)part-time serve as the Visitor Services Manager. Work in cooperation with the Field Station Island Manager. The Field Station Coordinator interfaces with visiting scientists, the on-site cetacean biologist, resident staff, and the public. Possible for a couple but due to the remote location, not appropriate for family with young children.
II. Field Biologist: Function as assistant coral reef monitoring field biologist. Lead volunteers on coral reef surveys. Responsible for training and data collection. Work under the direction of the Coral Reef Monitoring principal investigator.
III. Marine Naturalist: Conduct an educational snorkeling program for select visiting ecotourists. Includes interpretation and evening lectures.
IV. Field Station Visitor Services Manager: Function as the Oceanic Society on-site representative with visiting scientists and visitors. Implement policies as appropriate. Direct oversight for visitor services staff. Work in coordination with Island Manager.
Ideal candidate should have an M.S. degree, experience with international living, and teaching/group leading experience.
