Scuba Diving

Two excellent expeditions focus on Scuba Diving and Snorkeling ... one research expedition at Belize, and one recreational diving at Palau.

One expedition is monitoring the Belize Reefs. Divers are needed to assist marine biologists in the field. The long-term goal of this study is to assess the overall health of the reefs around Turneffe Atoll, to monitor the presence/absence as well as age/size classes of indicator fishes, one invertebrate and one major predator. In addition, this study monitors coral and algae cover on the reefs, and also gathers baseline data on species composition at the study site. Participants in this event can enjoy daily scuba diving and guided snorkeling along healthy reefs coupled with informative evening presentations on current scientific findings on preserving marine resources, and what individuals can do to help protect oceans.

The second expedition -- Palua by Yacht - is an 8-day expedition aboard Palau’s most comfortable live-aboard, and can be enjoyed by both the first time visitor to Palau and by repeat snorkelers. The advantage of exploring Palau’s marine environment and islands from a live-aboard is that it provides comfort, and easy accessibility to snorkel and scuba sites without the daily boat travel time required  by a landbased expedition.  Imagine enjoying a morning snorkel and then immediately hoping into a freshwater shower before settling down for a gourmet lunch.  Another advantage of the liveaboard is that you are can enjoy the snorkel and scuba sites when most of the day-trip visitors have left the area.
