Alex Kattan is a tropical marine biologist at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia, where he holds a master’s degree in Marine Science. His research, centered in the Red Sea, focuses on baseline monitoring and the movement ecology of reef fish and marine megafauna using techniques such as underwater visual surveys, baited remote underwater video systems (BRUVS), photo identification, scientific fishing methods, and acoustic and satellite tagging.
Leading trips with Oceanic Society gives Alex the unique opportunity to explore and document other marine regions while sharing his experience and knowledge with like-minded travelers. A fish-nerd at heart, he is a globally-minded naturalist who thrives on learning, teaching, and bringing the underwater world to life for others. He has led or participated in marine expeditions in the Red Sea, Maldives, Tanzania, Madagascar, Mozambique, Oman, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Honduras, the Bahamas, and Florida.
