Overview

We are excited to introduce this all new "First Fridays" program in 2017. First Fridays are evening cruises offered on the first Friday of June, July, August, and September. On each outing, we will explore the waters of San Francisco Bay and, weather permitting, venture under the Golden Gate Bridge and into the Gulf of the Farallones in search of marine mammals, seabirds, and more.

Bring food and drink and enjoy the sunset while you cruise past Alcatraz, Angel Island, and all the incredible attractions along the San Francisco waterfront. San Francisco Bay is also home to incredible wildlife, including harbor porpoises, California sea lions, harbor seals, seven gill sharks, Brandt’s Cormorants, Brown Pelicans, Western Gulls, California Gulls, and many other species!

Did you know that there once was a submarine net between Sausalito and San Francisco? Or about its connection to harbor porpoises? Join us to find out about this and much more.

Each trip is led by an expert naturalist who assists with locating marine mammals, identifying seabirds and other marine life, and provides informative presentations about San Francisco Bay throughout the trip. Get to know our naturalists here.

Your trip supports ocean conservation

Oceanic Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to ocean conservation. Your participation in our First Fridays helps fund our global ocean conservation programs and local programs including whale entanglement response. Moreover, we use our whale watching cruises as an opportunity to collect photographic identification data on marine mammals, which we share with a network of researchers throughout the eastern Pacific. You can see our recently photographed whales on Happywhale. Learn more about Oceanic Society here.
