Small-Group Whale Watching. Ocean Safaris. Extraordinary Wildlife.
Discover Baja's extraordinary marine wildlife, from gray whales and blue whales to whale sharks, sea lions, dolphins, and vibrant underwater ecosystems, on small-group expeditions led by expert naturalists.
The Aquarium of the World
Baja is one of the world's great marine wildlife destinations, where nutrient-rich waters attract an extraordinary diversity of life. In the Sea of Cortez, an abundance of whales, dolphins, sea lions, whale sharks, rays, and fish led legendary ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau to famously call these waters the “Aquarium of the World.” Watch gray whales surface beside your boat in San Ignacio Lagoon, search for blue whales in the Sea of Cortez, snorkel alongside whale sharks in La Paz, or explore remote islands alive with wildlife, including nesting blue-footed boobies, brown pelicans, frigatebirds, and gulls along the cliffs, while onshore desert landscapes are home to coyotes and other resilient desert species.

Responsible Wildlife Travel, Led by a Nonprofit
For more than five decades, Oceanic Society has believed that travel can be a force for ocean conservation. We work with experienced local partners to support coastal communities and follow established passive whale watching guidelines to ensure our presence does not disrupt natural behaviors.
Our expeditions are intentionally small, giving travelers a more personal experience while minimizing the impact of our presence.
Expedition Naturalists
Our expedition naturalists bring expertise in whale watching, marine biology, wildlife photography, and conservation to every Baja expedition. They’ll help you understand the wildlife you encounter, sharpen your observation skills, and make the most of every unforgettable moment.
What Our Travelers Say
"This was a trip of a lifetime. Meeting the Gray whales in the lagoon, seeing the largest animal on the planet, riding with rafts of dolphins, all exhilarating and wonderful. Our guides were lovely, knowledgeable and helpful, and really contributed to the success of the trip. Accommodations were comfortable and food was excellent. 10/10."

Baja: San Ignacio Lagoon and Sea of Cortez
"Our first day at sea in La Paz was the best wildlife watching day I have had in my life. We had the chance to snorkel with a whale shark four times, then a magnificent close encounter (their choice – one mouthed my fin!) with sea lions at Espiritu Santo, and on the way home our boat was surrounded by about 100 leaping common dolphins."

BAJA WHALE SHARKS & SNORKELING THE SEA OF CORTEZ
"Being in San Ignacio lagoon with the majestic gray whales is the trip of a lifetime. Words do not do it justice. A gray whale calf spending time by our boat and watching us was the best day of my life."
